Why Church? Part 4

While I feel we could continue this series of “Why Church?” on for several more post this will be the last one on this topic for now.  I want to finish with a quote from Adam Hamilton who points out in his book “Leading Beyond The Walls” that the Church is essential for becoming a deeply committed Christian.  I 100% whole heartily agree with this.  That as Christians we will never realize our full potential as Christian apart from the Church.  People not only need Jesus but if we are a Christian we need the church.  When we gather with other Christians it provides those opportunities for us to have deep fellowship, serve our communities, to encourage one another, as well as worship God together.  Being a part of the church was never considered optional if you were a Christian.  If you are a Christian the New Testament presupposes that you will be a part of the church.  This idea that we can be Christians all on our own and we don’t need to be a part of the church is not biblical.

So today I encourage you if you are a Christian to find a church home where you can be ministered to, where you join a small group of others so you may pray for one another, encourage one another, and be there for one another.  Find a church family where you are not just an attendee who fills a pew on Sunday mornings but dig in and get involved!  Find out how God has spiritually gifted you so you may plug-in and serve others just as Christ served.  You were made to be in a relationship with God and a part of the body of Christ so choose today to throw away the lone ranger and join the body of believers!

I will give you another reason why we need to gather together to worship our Lord. 3 and 1/2 yrs ago I was very ill and found it extremely difficult to pray. Take whatever excuse you want; anger, confused, shock and guilt, it does not matter. I will not mention any names but it was strongly suggested to me that this illness was a result of my sins. I did not quit believing I just lost faith. So, I finally asked God want can I do? God said; Is anyone of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.James 5:14,15. I would not be here today if I had not had my church family to pray for me. Their support and love is all the reason you need to understand why you need to worship and fellowship with one another.

  2. So very true Joanne! We as Christians are called to be there for one another.
